Everyone is a unique unicorn in their own way. Some unicorns are more tolerable (and likeable) than others. But the point still stands. Everyone is different. That is why you meet different types of people every day. Whether you are at a family gathering, at the supermarket, or even waiting at the dentist’s, you will encounter different personalities. What are the types of people you meet at work, though?

The Morning Person
You know the one. While the rest of you are still getting your brains to reboot, this bundle of sunshine and rainbows is super perky and enthusiastic. And it’s not even 9.01 am yet! The Morning Person is cheerful and happy and if the commute didn’t irritate the life out of you, a joy to be around. At least when they greet you with a ‘Good Morning!’, you know they one hundred per cent mean it.
The Night Owl
In contrast to the Morning Person, the Night Owl is the grumpy one in the office. And when I say grumpy, I mean you’d be lucky to get a grunt out of them when you aim a ‘Good Morning’ their way grumpy. This person may not be the life of the party when you get to the office, but more often than not, they have a dry sense of humour about the happenings of your office.
Head of Gossip Central
If ever you want to get the latest deets about the hot office gossip, the Head of Gossip Central is your go-to person. Seriously, they know every. single. thing. that happens at the office. And sometimes even about the things that happen outside of it. They are so good at gossiping that you have to wonder how and when exactly they find time to work, but there you go. The office gossip vine would probably wither and die if this person is not there to water it.
The Boss’ Right-hand Person
If there is one person’s radar at work you want to avoid, it’s the Boss’s Right-hand Person. The one who is super close to your micromanaging boss. Not only are they willing to hang out with your boss during weekends, but they also have the power to speak on behalf of your boss. They also have the annoying habit of reporting everything to the boss, so you have to censor everything from your words to your actions when they are around.
The Fashionista
This is the person who looks glamourous every day of the week. Their outfits are on point and follow the latest trends. If anyone at the office needs any fashion tips, the Fashionista is the person to go to. That is, if the person in need of help is not intimidated by how put together and effortlessly fashionable the Fashionista is. However, despite the somewhat intimidating appearance, Fashionistas are not always the meanest girls in class.
The Human Disaster
Then there is the super uncordinated clumsy Human Disaster. They bring chaos simply walking across a flat surface with nothing to trip over. They are also the ones who may need multiple alarms in the morning to get to work on time. These tiny accidents they unintentionally cause are not that serious. Most of the time, they may even bring plenty of hilarity.
The Centre of Attention
Have you ever had a colleague who always wanted to one-up everyone else? In that case, you already know what the Centre of Attention is like. They make everything about themselves. You spent the weekend rescuing a puppy from the sewers? They would have an even more inspiring story about the time they rescued an entire litter of puppies from an even worse fate. Whatever any of your colleagues have said or done, the Centre of Attention will have a bigger and better story to share.
The Newbie
The Newbie, as the name suggests, is the newcomer to the team. They are still trying to figure out the company culture, its protocols and where they fit in. As a result, they are often silent, and if they are young, tend to hover awkwardly at the fringes. Newbies tend to gravitate towards people aho are friendly and easily approachable.
The One wih the Headphones
Who could say ‘stay away’ more clearly than the One with the Headphones? They arrive at the office wearing headphones. Then they continue to mind their business and work until it is time to work. All the while wearing headphones. It’s not an attack against you as a person. It may simply be that they work best when they have familiar songs playing in the background and does not want to disturb anyone else with their taste in music. Usually, a simple wave is enough to get their attention if you want to speak with them.
The Normal One, aka You
Then there is you, stuck smack dab in between these eccentric people. You keep your head down and don’t cause any problem or conflicts with your teammates. You are just the right level of friendly, so that everyone knows you are easy to work with. You also like to help anyone when they ask for it. But just remember. You are the Normal One from your perspective. When it comes to how your colleagues view you… Well, who knows? Normal is overrated, anyway.
